Halifax Academy Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight:
 
Owen Jamieson Arthur is a member of the National Senior Beta Club and served as a junior marshal. Owen has also been a member of the Monogram Club. During Owen’s time at HA, he was on the varsity swim team. He received All-Conference Awards in swimming for four seasons and was named Conference Swimmer of the Year during his senior year. Owen surpassed eight school records.
 
In Owen’s spare time, he enjoys fishing, racing, and spending time with family. He is a certified applicator and has worked for BugLink Pest Prevention for five years.
 
Owen is the son of Jennifer and Brad Arthur from Roanoke Rapids. He has two younger brothers, Brady and Jenson. Owen plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall and major in civil engineering.

Peyton Vance May is a National Senior Beta Club member. He served as a junior marshal last year. He has been actively involved in our Student Government Association throughout high school, most recently serving as senior class vice-president. Additionally, Peyton is a charter member of our newly established Spanish Club. Peyton has also been a member of the Monogram Club. During Peyton’s time at HA, he was on the varsity basketball team and also played football during the ninth grade.
 
In Peyton’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and watching and playing basketball. Last summer, Peyton worked as a 4-H summer camp counselor and plans to return to this position again this summer. Last year, Peyton participated in a food drive to assist families in need, and he found this volunteer work rewarding and meaningful.
 
Peyton lives in Roanoke Rapids. He is the son of Kristin and Jamie Shotwell and Pete May. He has two sisters, Kylie and Adalyna. Peyton plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall and major in engineering.

Halifax Academy Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight:
 
Emily Michelle Stiles is a member of the Octagon Club. She is also an active member of our Student Government Association and currently serves as senior class representative and on the color guard team. Emily participated in cheer, basketball, and softball during her freshman year and volleyball during her sophomore year of high school. In Emily’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, going to the beach, and playing sports, especially volleyball.
 
Emily plans to attend East Carolina University in the fall and pursue a career in nursing. She is the daughter of Amber and Tommy Byrum of Pleasant Hill. Emily has four siblings: Addie, Kyleigh, Karleigh, and Ethan.

Halifax Academy Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight:
 
William Henry Hatchett “Hatch” Morris was recently named the HA Class of 2025’s salutatorian. Hatch is a National Senior Beta Club member, serving twice as our chapter president. Hatch served as a junior marshal last year. Hatch also has been a member of the Monogram and Octagon Clubs and the Quiz Bowl Team. He has been actively involved in our Student Government Association throughout high school, most recently serving as student body president. Additionally, Hatch is a charter member of our newly established Spanish Club.
During Hatch’s time at HA, he was on the varsity swim and shooting teams. In 11th and 12th grades, he received All-Conference Awards in swimming and a 1A State Runner-Up Award. Hatch has received many accolades while participating on our Shooting Team and, most recently, was a first-place team member in District 3. Hatch will compete in the upcoming North Carolina Youth Hunter Education Skills Tournament later this month.
 
Outside of school, Hatch has worked as a floor manager for Jackson Food Fresh for two years. In Hatch’s spare time, he enjoys going to the beach, hunting, and doing anything related to sports. Hatch participated in the ECU Health North Hospital’s Volunteen Program last summer. He has supported many volunteer projects at HA, but his most meaningful activity was coordinating a clothes drive to support the Western North Carolina flood relief.
 
Hatch is the son of Betsy and Jason Morris of Jackson. He has one younger sister, Elizabeth. Hatch plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall and major in biological sciences. Hatch aspires to be a dentist.

Halifax Academy Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight:
 
Alyssa Nicole Hawkins is a National Senior Beta Club member and current historian. She is also a member of the Monogram and Octagon Clubs. She has been an active Student Government Association member and currently serves as senior class treasurer. During her time at HA, she participated in varsity cheer and soccer. This past fall, Alyssa was crowned homecoming queen.
 
Outside of school, Alyssa has participated in competitive dance for 11 years and particularly enjoys clogging. She has been an assistant choreographer for the Myrick School of Dance for five years. In her spare time, Alyssa enjoys shopping and spending time with family and friends. She attends Valley Community Church, where she likes to keep the nursery. She has worked as a shift leader for RCE Theaters for two years.
 
Alyssa plans to attend Edgecombe Community College in the fall and major in radiology. Alyssa is the daughter of Jodi and Nick Hawkins from Roanoke Rapids. She has one younger sister, Alley.
